MY FATHER'S SON (originally called MADE IN SHEFFIELD with book and lyrics by Stephen Clark) was written for the Made In Sheffield Theatre Company. This moving and inspiring musical set in the steel mills of nineteenth century Sheffield was performed between 1993 and 1999 in various venues including the Sheffield Crucible and the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler’s Wells to great acclaim.
Stephen's second musical for the Made In Sheffield Theatre Co. was THE LAST WAVE, with book and lyrics by Peter Spafford. Loosely based on the children's crusade this powerful musical theatre work was performed at the Rotherham Arts Centre in 1998 also to acclaim.
With book and lyrics by fellow Sondheim pupil Ed Hardy Stephen composed the music for a musical adaptation of THE AMAZING MR BLUNDEN based on Antonia Barber's famous novel The Ghosts, which was performed in concert at the Theatre Museum, Covent Garden in 1995.
Stephen met the noted author Jonathan Miles in 1999 and they have since collaborated on several musicals which are at various stages of development. BETWEEN THE KISSES is a chamber musical for a small cast set in the media and entertainment world of the 1980's and CHILDREN OF PARADISE is a musical dramatization of the events surrounding the filming of the great French film Les Enfants du Paradis in Nazi-occupied France. Their latest collaboration is based on Jonathan's acclaimed book The Nine Lives Of Otto Katz and concerns the relationship and rivalry between Marlene Dietrich, Otto Katz and Greta Garbo. Stephen’s first full-length musical was THE DEVIL AND MR STONE a Faustian tale which was performed as a late-night show at the Donmar Warehouse in July 1989.
